HYDRATION. DRINK UP!

Hydration is a major component to our 5 TO THRIVE Healthy Habits!

Water is key to helping your body function optimally but most people don’t realize that they’re not getting enough every day! It’s important to sip on water throughout the day to stay hydrated but that doesn’t mean you have to drink it plain!

Here are some ideas of how to "AMP" up your water intake:

  • Add fresh fruit to your water. Citrus fruits, such as lemons, limes, and oranges are classic water enhancers. Other fruit flavours might also tempt your taste buds too!

  • Try crushing fresh raspberries into your water or add strawberry slices.

  • Cucumber and fresh mint are refreshing flavours as well.

  • A little more adventurous is lavender and basil as options.

  • Arbonne has a HYDRATION product called TrueSport Hydration. This is a great way to AMP up your water intake too!

HOW to increase your intake?

  • Drink a glass after every bathroom break.

  • Start a habit by linking water with some of your most common daily activities. For example: when you are getting up from your desk for a bathroom break, stop by the kitchen to chug a glass of water after leaving the restroom. Or, every time you pass the water cooler, fill up a cup. It’s about creating simple habits to get more hydration into you.

  • Use a mason jar to track your cups. Keeping up with how many glasses you’ve finished can be easy when you have a simple tool like a 1-litre glass mason jar to be your guide.

  • Sip before every meal.

  • Add more fruit and veg to your day - one sneaky way to increase the amount of water you consume on a daily basis: eat your H2O. Add fruits and vegetables with a high water content to your grocery shopping list such as cucumber (96% water), zucchini (95% water).

  • Get creative with ice.Some say that ice water tastes better than water served at room temperature. If that's so, flavoured ice cubes may make an even better drink. Use some of the flavouring suggestions above and start experimenting with fresh fruit, mint or cucumber ice cubes. Simply chop your additive of choice, add it to your ice cube tray along with water, then freeze. You may also consider juice, tea, or coffee cubes. If you want to be more creative, use ice cube trays that come in fun shapes, like stars, circles, or even fish.

  • Use an app to track your cups. Keeping up with how many glasses you’ve finished can be easy (and fun) with the help of a free app. Download Daily Water Free or Carbodroid to your phone to set daily reminders and alarms.

A good guideline is to aim for is half your body weight in ounces of water daily but I think all of us would simply do well to AIM FOR 2 litres PER DAY. Of course, it is normal to have an increase in bathroom trips in the beginning, but like everything else, you'll adapt quickly and feel fantastic.

A great option and one of our BONUS habits you could complete is starting the day (even before your green shot) with room temp to warm/hot lemon water. Simply add a slice of lemon or two to your water as this is shown to boost digestion and reduce acidity in the GI tract by increasing alkalinity! Studies show that STARTING your day with TWO GLASSES of lemon water (17oz) before anything else can boost your metabolism by 30-40%!
